When we had the Newsagents (which by the way was covered in West Ham memorabilia) some customers would give me football related items and one lovely old boy gave me a photo of Peters scoring in the final and it was signed by the team except sadly Bobby he also gave me 5 ticket stubs including the Final.

if we'd had cresswell, Nobes and Carroll in the euros we'd have had a good chance of winning it. sadly we had too many spuds in the team and you what bunch of bottlers those buggers are

.Every man and his dog knows that England only win things with 3 West ham in the team.
lets hope that BFS knows that too.

I was 16 years old & went to one of the England group games at Wembley, but was in Canada visiting relatives when the final was played. We had flown to Toronto on the day of the SF v Portugal. The pilot announced we had won 2-1 & a massive cheer was heard! I didn't find out until the Sunday that we had beaten WG, but it was still a great moment. Strangely Ted my parents had also gone to Spain, while I was in Canada, & were in a hotel with quite a few Germans there too. It was a great time to be in your teens in the 1960's & our victory rounded it all off very nicely!

A great day and Bobby's third of four cup wins, on the trot, at Wembley. :-) I saw them all, including the one in 67.

Regardless of that, only nine nations have won the World Cup, so yes, it should be remembered whilst acknowledging our failings since then

Re: 50 Years Ago Today England Won The World Cup
Am I alone in thinking this celebration of when England last won the world cup, 50 years ago, is sad and just highlights how badly the national team has played since then. 50 years ago for goodness sake! Talk about a dry spell. I think it is embarassing, independant of how many hammers were involved.

Probably in another 50 years time the few remaining people alive who remember when England won the world cup will be wheeled out to hushed tones of awe.

Peters,Stiles and Wilson have all been diagnosed with Alzheimer's ,and Gordon Banks said a few months ago he was fighting kidney cancer.
So healthwise its not looking too good.
